Why Dr Kara Created SBK
SBKās roots can be traced back to my childhood in the picturesque countryside of Tasmania, Australia. Although my childhood eczema did improve, it marked the beginning of my own skin journey. Over the years, Iāve encountered a variety of skin conditions, including allergic dermatitis, irritant dermatitis, scalp dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, and acne!
At the age of 18, I left my childhood town and embarked on a journey to pursue my interest in science. I earned several degrees and even had the privilege of working as a hydrochemist in Antarctica. However, during my PhD years, I realised that laboratory life wasnāt truly fulfilling for me. I yearned for the opportunity to interact with people and make a true positive impact. This realization led me to make a career change and pursue medical school. I officially became a medical doctor in 2015, and thatās when my passion for skincare truly blossomed!
In 2018, I welcomed my son Mateo into the world, and supporting him through his own skin challenges was adding fuel to my fire.Ā When I was diagnosed with spondyloarthritis, it was the nudge I needed to turn my passion into reality. And thatās how SBK was born.
